Southeast Asians Can Suffer from Synonymania Too!

Synonymania : A vocabulary condition that strikes many IELTS candidates.

Symptoms: In the writing task, the victim will consistently try to use less common words over everyday words which would be more precise.

Occurrence: Very common throughout South Asia (India, Pakista, Bangladesh) where tutors have taught for years that you must never repeat a word,.

 Treatment: Lexical discipline!

This sad condition is also known more informally as "trying too hard" or in a negative way, "showing off". As mentioned above, it's quite common in certain regions.
The essay I review here was from a Vietnamese candidate, and it proves that synonymania can strike anyone.
